Lieutenant Colonel Edward "Ed" Kessler is Director of Counterdrug, Headquarters Southeast Region, Civil Air Patrol.
Colonel Kessler retired after 31 years with the Federal Government. He began work as a Federal Agent in Narcotics enforcement, Anti smuggling and Fugitive task force operations in New York City. He then worked for the U.S. Dept of Defense (DOD) in a agency reporting to the Under Secretary of Defense for Intelligence (USD[I]). He was assigned to the Pentagon and U.S. Special Operations Command among others and was selected as a Special Case Officer for White House / DOD inquires.
Prior to his current CAP assignment, he served the Air Defense Support Directorate and Deputy Director Counterdrug, National Headquarters, Civil Air Patrol. He was the Director of Homeland Security and later as Deputy Director of Professional Development, Florida Wing, Civil Air Patrol.
During his service at Florida Wing, he formulated the Homeland Security CONOP recognized by Gen J P. Jumper, USAF; Col R Anderson, USAF, Chief USAF Aux Div. As Deputy Director Counterdrug, he assisted the Director to coordinate 36 missions for Homeland Security / Counterdrug / Narco–Terrorism. He also assisted local CAP squadrons by enhancing air crew mission sustainability and counterdrug effectiveness through aircrew training and overwater ditching and survival classes.
